Mamelodi Denlyn Extension
An additional 20 000m² of retail space is planned for Denlyn to enhance the centre’s services and product offering to the community and to create approximately 400 new jobs for Mamelodi’s local residents.
The council is considering Safari’s application for the acquisition of the sport fields adjacent to the existing centre (Erf 40828) whereby Safari commits in return to relocate and upgrade these facilities to the nearby open stand (Erf 6957) adjacent to the existing HM Pitje Soccer Stadium at Kubone Drive. The improved facilities will include fields with a clubhouse and ablution facilities plus parking. The Mamelodi Local Football Association welcomed Safari’s proposal to upgrade the current fields and facilities at the more practical location around the existing stadium.
Denlyn has a foot count of 1,2 million per month, of which 80% (960 000) make use of public transport. These locals save R30 per trip, a R28,8 million monthly saving for the community, by no longer having to visit distant retail facilities like Pretoria CBD or Menlyn. It has been calculated that across the three Safari centres in Mamelodi, Atteridgevilleand Sebokeng, R600 million per annum is saved in travel costs due to the close and convenient proximity of the centres to local homes.
